This week has been a heavy Apple week for me, obviously its been the iPad release weekend in the states, i’ve been testing a lot of iPhone apps and making notes on and about them and finally (and biggest and most important for me) on Friday I came home with a shiny new Macbook Pro.
If you told me 3 or so years ago that this would be the case I am pretty sure I would of called you insane. I had some bad experiences with Apple products while at Uni and pretty much swore to hate them forever, but slowly since then I have come to love them (I think hugely influenced by using an iPhone a lot) I should point out I am not one of these people who thinks Apple is better than everything, I am totally happy to buy and use products from different manufacturers (definitely including Microsoft) if they produce stuff thats better. In fact if the iPhone replacement isn’t announced soon or sucks when it is announced I will seriously consider the new gorgeous Windows 7 Mobile or a Nexus One…so nerr!
…Anyway!Loving the Macbook so far, OS-X is brilliantly intuitive and very easy to use so I have been able to get stuck into some work straight away. I have been using some software called ‘Coda’ which fulfils the role of Notepad++ on my PC (Coda is prettier but I’ve not used it for long enough yet to know if its better) I haven’t come across anything yet that I personally would do on my Vista laptop that I can’t do on the Macbook. I know Apple product’s aren’t for everybody, but I really like mine 🙂
iPad….Man what I would of given to be in the US this weekend (3rd April) Twitter was alive with parties and the such, especially jealous of Robert Scoble (http://scobleizer.com/ or @scobleizer on Twitter) and his all night camp out to be 1st in line at the Palo Alto Apple store, can’t see myself doing that at the Bull Ring to be honest, partly because I would fall asleep, but partly because Im thinking of passing on the 1st generation of iPads…I may go back on this and crumble and buy one, but with my sensible head on at the moment I am thinking it will be better to wait. There will probably be bugs and such at 1st and the 2nd gen is bound to be WAY better than the 1st with all the missing features that this release needs. So we’ll wait and see, I will do my best to play with one as close to release day as possible.
I am really hoping the ‘4g’ iPhone will be available this summer and O2 offer a reasonable package for us people with 3g iPhones to upgrade, then I should be able to cope with waiting for an iPad 😉
